Automobiles in Germany's City Found Covered with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Report

Authorities stated they were contacted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Officers state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Law enforcement then located many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state early analysis indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.

A high-ranking political figure stated the incident made him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
